Short-Term vs. Long-Term Therapy

Short-Term Therapy, such as the type that Lorraine had, can be very valuable in dealing with situational depression. When there is a reaction to a specific event, short-term therapy can provide tools and techniques for regaining control over the situation. Once the situation is either resolved or the coping techniques are integrated into daily living, the need for this type of therapy ends.

Long-Term Therapy may begin because you are seeking help coping with your illness, or you are experiencing some depression. This type of therapy may uncover other underlying issues that may need to be addressed even after the initial reason for beginning therapy has resolved.
