Note to Parents Interested in Volunteering: One of the most important outcomes that campers experience at Camp Oasis is an increased sense of independence. To foster that outcome, CCFA does not allow parents of campers to serve as counselors.
Cabin Counselor
General Responsibility Counsel and guide campers in daily living and to facilitate friendship and understanding among campers.
Specific Responsibilities
Work under direction of Camp Director and designated staff as part of camp team
Live in a cabin with a group of same sex campers
Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers' day including wake-up, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest times, getting ready for bed, and nighttime supervision
Assume responsibility for leadership and guidance of those campers in daily living, with special attention to their physical and emotional well-being, personal hygiene and safety, participation in activities, mealtime behavior, and habits
Serve as a good example in personal language, behavior, appearance, rest, and health habits
Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns
Create a safe environment in which participants feel accepted by staff and peers
Lead, participate in, and assist with activities as assigned
Essential Functions
Ability to assist campers in emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, injury)
Ability to maintain constant supervision of campers when on-duty
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the cabin group
Specific Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent
At least 19 years of age
Experience working with young people
Ability to put others' needs before own
Strong work ethic
Good character/ability to make difficult decisions in the face of adversity
Ability to relate to adults of all ages, as well as to children
Flexibility and ability to accept supervision and guidance
Good communication skills
Desire and ability to work with children and adults with IBD in a camp setting
Junior Counselor (position only available in GA, MI, MO, MN, NY, TX, WA, WV)
General Responsibility Assist cabin counselors or activity counselors in their duties
Specific Responsibilities
Work under direction of Camp Director and designated staff as part of camp team
If living in cabin - Assist cabin counselors in supervising all assigned aspects of the campers' day, including wake-up, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest times, getting ready for bed, and nighttime supervision, or assist activity specialists in the coordination of assigned activities
If working in activity area - Assist activity specialists in the coordination of assigned activities
Serve as a good example in personal language, behavior, appearance, rest, and health habits

General Responsibility Assist in overseeing the camp's medical operations according to the camp mission, guiding principles, and medical manual; to distribute medication, keep medical records, and assist Camp Physician(s).
Specific Responsibilities:
Assist in staff training related to Health Center, Medical Manual and OSHA requirements
Carry out medical procedures as directed by the Medical Director & Camp Physician(s)
Prepare and maintain Camp Health Center
Properly store and dispense any medicines brought to camp by campers and staff, in accordance with the Camp Medical Manual and with the local state's laws
Complete appropriate forms (Incident Reports, Medication Log, etc.) in a timely manner
Assist in evaluating the entire camp operation with suggestions for the following season
As needed, speak with campers' parents
Perform other duties as designated by the Medical Director & Head Nurse
Essential Functions:
Ability to assist in staff training
Ability to help monitor health and safety of camp population
Ability to provide care under the instruction of the Medical Director, Head Nurse, & Camp Physician(s)
Ability to reach patients on rugged terrain
Specific Qualifications
Possess a valid license (or obtain appropriate reciprocity) to work as a nurse in the state in which camp is located
Desire and ability to work with children and adults with IBD in a camp setting
Preferred: Experience with pediatric GI patients or emergency rooms
Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training

Assume overall responsibility for any medical situation that may arise
Assist with staff training, discussing IBD in children and its impact
Provide direction on and supervise all treatment and medical procedures
Order medications (if needed)
Transfer care to and from other camp physicians upon arrival and departure from camp
Complete appropriate forms (Incident Reports, Medications Log, etc.) in a timely manner
Assist in evaluating the entire camp operation with suggestions for the following season

Perform other duties as designated by Medical Director

Preferred: Experience with pediatric GI patients or emergency rooms
Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training
General Responsibility Provide social and psychological support to campers and to train staff in accordance with the camp mission, guiding principles and medical manual.
Specific Responsibilities
Assist with staff orientation, providing insight on various scenarios that typically arise at camp and how to handle them
Provide on-going support to campers and staff regarding behavioral/emotional issues
Assist with decisions on emotional/behavioral issues related to campers and staff
Assist in evaluating the entire camp operation with suggestions for the following season
As needed, speak with campers' parents
Perform other duties as designated by the Medical Director & Camp Director
Essential Functions
Ability to assist in staff training
Ability to observe staff and camper behavior
Ability to respond to situations that arise with campers (e.g. mental health issues, social conflicts, noncompliance, homesickness, anxiety regarding medical exams at camp)
Ability to work directly with campers
Ability to guide staff through the best way for staff to intervene/respond
Specific Qualifications
A valid license to practice psychiatry, psychology, or social work, or certification to work as a child life specialist, in the state in which camp is located
Experience with pediatric patients
Desire and ability to work with children and adults with IBD in a camp setting
