We featured a guest speaker at our March 3 meeting! Debra Clancy, RD, CD is a dietician at Virginia Mason Medical Center who works with patients who have inflammatory bowel disease.

Ms. Clancy is a member of the CCFA Northwest Chapter Medical Advisory Committee and has spoken at many education events for patients and professionals.

She discussed the following topics, and took questions on the role of nutrition in IBD.

  • Gluten: which test is valid for determining gluten sensitivity?; how does gluten really affect digestion?
  • Specific Carbohydrate Diet: why is it so popular with people with IBD?
  • Lactose intolerance: understanding the test and is it accurate?
  • Liquid-only protocol in hospital: How many days can we have broth only before we become weaker than when we started? Does this really heal the intestines faster?

Share your stories and experiences, exchange disease management tips, and make friends with people in your community who also suffer from inflammatory bowel disease. Patients, family, friends, and healthcare providers are welcome to attend.
