SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS

Meet the Iowa Chapter's 2009 Take Steps Honorary Hero, Amy Bowers!

Amy Bowers- 2009 Honorary Hero

At 14-years-old, Amy was sick off and on and also was suffering from significant weight loss.  She was seen by doctors but they had difficulties reaching a diagnosis.  During her first marching band performance, she collapsed on the field. She went in for further testing, and soon after, Amy was diagnosed with Crohnʼs disease. After trying numerous medications, including at one point taking 18 pills a day, she suffered a relapse which landed her in the hospital for a few days. She is currently taking an IV medication every 8 weeks which has been successful in keeping her Crohnʼs under control.

Now 16-years-old, Amy is an active member of band, participating in jazz band, marching band drumline, percussion ensemble and concert band. Amy also enjoys mock trial, tennis, bowling and horseback riding. Amy has attended CCFA Camp Oasis for two years and has participated in the Crohnʼs and Colitis Bowl-a-thon. Amy will be working on a 4-H project this year for the county fair on Crohnʼs disease.

Meet the Take Steps 2009 Corporate Walk Chair, Gordon Kratz!
