CCFA's Jumping Blue Beans™ Leaped for a Cure!

On Saturday, May 8, 2004, the sun came out smiling for the CCFA Jumping Blue Beans™ who skydived to benefit the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.

CCFA members, their families and friends gathered together at Skydive Jersey Shore to support their Jumping Blue Beans™ who raised funds to help find a cure for Crohn's & colitis. Jumpers included IBD patients as well as others who wanted to help a good cause.

"We are aggressively fighting to find a cure and to raise awareness for the estimated one million Americans who are living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis," said Roger Koman, vice president, new enterprises of CCFA. "We're especially proud of the efforts of the skydivers today who worked hard to raise funds and awareness for those who are living with these diseases and the challenges they have to face every day."

Most of the skydivers were first time jumpers. Jumpers ranged in age from eighteen to sixty years old. The event was sponsored by Friendship All Natural Cottage Cheese.

Participants competed for prizes that were donated by Foxwoods Resorts Casino, Boneau/Bryan Brown and Alan Wasser Associates, two theatrical agencies who donated tickets to Beauty & The Beast and Phantom of The Opera.  A prize went to Jason Hyne who raised the most funds for CCFA. Kathleen Edwards and Jessica Rawles were the winners of the bean bag throw competition.  Charles Bachus won the fifty fifty raffle draw.

Jumpers went through a short training session before boarding a plane to make their leap for a cure. Spectators anxiously waited in the sidelines to cheer and hug their loved ones when they landed.

"It was the most exciting thing I've ever done" said Jennifer Apostol, who jumped for the first time for a friend who had both Crohn's & colitis. Benny Velazquez who also jumped exclaimed his jump "was the coolest high ever and I am glad I raised money for a good cause."

It was a great event for CCFA's Jumping Blue Beans™. The event raised $38,000 to help find a cure.  People are already lining up for next year's exciting event which will take place on the east and west coast.

We hope to see you all again next year!
