Government Affairs Committee

Statement of Purpose

The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) is made up of Foundation volunteers, medical professionals, as well as Board of Trustee members.  This group is responsible for monitoring the activities of governmental bodies that relate to the Foundation's mission.  The GAC develops positions on relevant issues, as well as recommends and implements strategies promoting the interests of the Crohn's and colitis community.

GAC is comprised of three subcommittees

*Public Policy

The public policy subcommittee proposes, reviews and evaluates legislative and regulatory measures that impact the Crohn's and colitis community.  The subcommittee is comprised of individuals with interest and expertise in the public policy and government affairs arena.

*Communications and Technology

The communications and technology subcommittee works to establish communications vehicles and content.  They generate letters, articles and action alerts.  The subcommittee -- responsible for the Advocacy Network -- is comprised of individuals with interest and expertise in communications, advertising, marketing and public relations.

*Public Outreach, Partnership and Planning

The public outreach, partnership and planning subcommittee works to foster partnerships and liaisons with GI and non-GI organizations and initiatives, such as the AMA, NMA, and the DDNC and others to advance our goals.  The subcommittee -- responsible for helping to organize "IBD Day on the Hill" -- is comprised of individuals with an interest and expertise in serving as event planners, spokespeople and liaisons with organizations and the public.
