Contact your Legislators About the Fiscal Year 2007 Budget (via e-mail or fax) President Bush's fiscal year 2007 budget request calls for significant cuts to crucial IBD research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We must tell our legislators that this is not in our best interest -- while they can still do something about it. Use your vote to improve the quality of life for the entire IBD community. Write your senators and representative today and tell them that IBD research is important. Click here to download a sample letter to Congress. What's at Stake The 2007 budget request cuts $11 million from the leading institute at NIH responsible for Crohn's and colitis research. It also completely eliminates funding for IBD epidemiology studies at the CDC. Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that studies the causes, distribution, and control of disease in populations. It's how we first connected smoking to lung cancer and heart disease. Two landmark epidemiology studies allowed the Surgeon General to make that causal link, and consequently enabled millions of people the world over to make the choice for better health. These cuts are steps in the wrong direction for the IBD community. We must make our voices heard now, before it is too late. To make a difference, you need only customize this draft letter to Congress and send it off. It will only take a few minutes of your time, and could help to fund years of IBD research. CCFA encourages its members, volunteers, and friends to become actively involved in advancing our policy goals. By sharing your story and providing crucial information about the impact of IBD, you can inform and inspire your elected representatives--in Congress and in your state legislature. We've already achieved great success in urging our legislators to implement responsible policies that can transform the lives of some 1.4 million Americans. With your help, we can accomplish even more! To receive regular updates and information on how you can make a difference, join CCFA's National IBD Advocacy Network.
