Your Dollars at Work

Each year, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is audited by an independent accounting firm. The Foundation's financial statements are published in our annual report.

In 2008, our allocation of contributions were as follows:

  • Program Services -- 79.3%
  • Fundraising -- 10.5%
  • Administrative -- 10.5%
CCFA has defined itself by sponsoring the best and brightest researchers over many decades, seeding the field with studies around the mysteries of IBD.  In fiscal year 2008, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation invested $15.5 million in research, roughly two and a half times what we allocated only a few years ago.

The Foundation consistently meets the standards of organizations that monitor charities, including the American Institute of Philanthropy, Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance, and Charity Navigator.

Here are the actions we take and the results we get on a daily basis with your support:

Research

  • The Crohn's & Colits Foundation maintains and supports a number of professional scientific committees to identify appropriate and effective research projects.
  • The Foundation receives more than 250 Crohn's and colitis research grant applications a year and funds more than 100 projects.
  • Over 1,100 research grants have been funded by the Foundation

Results

  • Joint alliances and databank resources have been developed to aid in finding the cause of and effective treatment for Crohn's and colitis. Read more about our research initiatives
  • Over 60% of Foundation-sponsored researchers have obtained subsequent funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for further research.
  • More than 77% of Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Research Training Award recipients are still involved in Crohn's & colitis research.
  • Compared to other foundations devoted to finding cures for diseases, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is not nearly as well-funded per patient suffering. However, the Foundation funds significantly more research than its counterparts.
