National Youth Leadership Council Application Information What is the National Youth Council? The National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) works to increase awareness of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis through youth-focused advocacy and fundraising. Youth leaders become advocates for patients through local and national campaigns. The council members also identify new fundraising opportunities on their campus and are responsible for meeting a minimum fundraising goal each year, while supporting and increasing support for existing programs. Council members will develop leadership skills and prepare for even larger roles as advocates for people with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
What are the goals of the National Youth Leadership Council? Unify youth leaders invested in enhancing and strengthening our mission—to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. Who should apply for the National Youth Leadership Council? CCFA is seeking exceptional and highly-motivated student leaders who are in their freshman or sophomore of college. Download an application. What makes a great National Youth Leadership Council member? Ideal candidates display leadership ability and take part in extracurricular activities and community service while showing dedication to the Crohn's and colitis community. Fundraising experience is preferred. Skills Desired • Demonstrated leadership skills (e.g. sports, school organizations, extracurricular activities) • Involved in volunteer activities (including activities pertaining to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation) • Excellent follow-through capabilities and willingness to stay focused on the specific activity and remain committed • Demonstrated outstanding academic achievements • Ability or willingness to present in front of small and large groups • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment What kind of time commitment is expected? There will three onsite meetings/trainings each year. All travel and hotel costs will be covered as part of being a National Youth Council member. Meetings will vary in length and location. Monthly conference calls will take place between onsite meetings. How long will Council members serve? One year or more. At the end of the year, each council member will meet with our staff to evaluate participation and goals. A joint decision will be made for that member to either rotate off the group or continue on for a two-year commitment. How do candidates apply? Through an application and interview process. Criteria will include leadership ability, extracurricular and community service, recommendations, and application essay. Applications that are missing sections will not be considered by the judging committee. Selected council members will be contacted by mid November and will be invited to the winter retreat in early January.
