CCFA Rocks Radio with Mike McCready Public Service Announcement!
Mike McCready, lead guitarist for the popular rock group Pearl Jam, joined with CCFA to create a new public service campaign targeted to rock radio stations, which speaks to rock radio listeners in their own language…rock music. Over a background of Pearl Jam music, Mike speaks about his personal experiences with Crohn's disease and the importance of CCFA: "I know how devastating these diseases can be. I'd be playing a solo in front of 20,000 people when 'wham!' -- this searing gut pain would hit me and I could hardly play a note."
Being on the road made things even harder for Mike. "I was taking 140 pills a week. Some of the medications caused my face to completely puff up. I was pretty depressed. Then I found out about the CCFA and I realized that I was not alone."
Building public awareness of the serious nature of these diseases, and the leading role that CCFA plays in fighting them, is critical to accomplishing our mission. "Last year the Barbara Bush PSA campaign generated over $5,000,000 in media time for CCFA," reports Barbara Rosenstein, Vice President of Marketing. "The new Mike McCready campaign for rock radio stations gives us a chance to dramatically build awareness among 15-35 year-olds, the very group that Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis often strike."
Mike is now an active supporter of CCFA and the Northwest Chapter. As Mike says in the radio spots, "Through CCFA, I have connected with some incredibly strong kids who inspire me to focus on what I can do to help find a cure. You can help too. Together we can help a lot of kids."
The campaign includes 60- and 30-second radio PSAs and has been distributed to over 1,250 rock radio stations all across America. We greatly appreciate the generous support of the Mankoff Family Foundation for this effort.
If you have contacts or relationships with local rock radio stations, please call the executive director of your local CCFA Chapter to find out how you can personally contribute to the success of the new CCFA Mike McCready PSA campaign.
